Teaching Award for Ms. Davis

May 3, 2019

Our own Krissi Davis has been awarded the Grady Excellence in Teaching Award for 2019-20. You may know Ms. Davis as Grady's orchestra and guitar teacher, but she's also a leader and mentor through her work with the GMEA--and a doctoral student! As Dr. Bockman put it, "She expects the best of herself and her students every single day."

North Georgia Honor Orchestra

October 6, 2018

Mackenzie Mitchell (senior, cello), Reina Rodriguez (senior, violin), and Anne Robinson (freshman, violin) were selected as members of the North Georgia Honor Orchestra, a two-day event at Kennesaw State University. Mackenzie writes: We spent two days working with the KSU instrument instructors, KSU Symphony members, as well as Dr. Parker (KSU Orchestra Director) on a multi-movement piece by Carl Nielson as well as the finale from Brahms' Symphony No. 2. The Brahms was played alongside the KSU symphony. We experienced various aspects of KSU and their music program. There were opportunities for Q & As with the faculty that cleared up questions about majoring in music and why KSU would be a top choice for music. It was all a great opportunity to learn about music programs and what college music looks like.

Score! Grady vs. NAHS Orchestra

August 17, 2018

Grady Orchestra won 8-6 in an exciting game that saw the lead change teams until the very end, with Grady winning the precious prize of the spirit stick. The spirit stick is long and decorated in Mardi Gras colors [purple, yellow, and green]. The winning team keeps the spirit stick in its orchestra room for the year and adds decoration to it. We won fair and square, but going to orchestra I saw a note on the board from North Atlanta that said, “ We will come back to claim the spirit stick.” All I can say to that is Good Luck. I just hope we will find a good place to put the spirit stick. - Jade Ashmore

"Stage Fright" Concert

October 26, 2017

Together with Grady Voice, the orchestra performed its first concert of the school year before a large, appreciative audience. Ms. Davis, in her debut on the Grady podium, led the group through a program that was both boisterous and eerie. The Dies irae ("Day of Wrath") from Mozart's Requiem, performed with Mr. Hill and Voice, set hearts pounding.
